staying at arrowhead inn is never a night you stay away from home, it’s rather a journey through time exploring and experiencing the magnificent period furniture, fixtures, artwork and decorations. The hosts; Gloria and Phil would do anything possible to make you feel at home at any given time during your stay. My husband and I would not stay anywhere else during our visits to Durham to see my in-laws who live 4 miles down the road.
We were greeted warmly by Gloria, the Inn keeper who immediately put us at ease with her friendly demeanor and welcoming personality. The plantation home is a beautiful restoration of American history. It was quiet and peaceful and has a warm and inviting ambiance. We stayed in a room upstairs that was quiet and spacious. The king size bed was comfortable. The bathroom is small with very little counter space so be prepared to pack accordingly, you won't want to bring a lot of items that take too much space. We were able to select a movie to watch in our room from an expansive collection. The breakfast which was prepared by Gloria's husband was a gourmet meal and presented on beautiful table ware. We found it enjoyable to sit with other guests on our first morning and then we sat on our own the second morning, you have a choice. Overall I would recommend the Arrowhead Inn as a relaxing and comfortable destination with an inviting southern feel.
We have stayed with Phil and Gloria several times in the past few years. Each time we stay, it gets better! The cabin is such a great retreat. Phil and Gloria treat you like family. They go out of their way to ensure your stay is fabulous. The extra little touches like snacks in the room, rubber ducky for the tub, and beautiful decorations make it feel luxurious. The area is wonderful as well; close to theater, well maintained walking trails, museums, and restaurants. Don't miss out on having dinner at the Inn, Phil's creations are beautifully and taste even better. His menu constantly changes, so no matter how many times you stay, you'll never get bored at either dinner or breakfast. The meals are Michelin three star (five star if the scale went that high!). I want to take a cooking class from Phil!
We stayed in the log cabin. It was absolutely gorgeous inside and out. The food was to die for! The scenery, gazebo, fire column area, path through the stunning flowers, beautiful trees with swings...the place was just perfect. I loved the cabin...the bedroom loft overlooking the entire downstairs, the nice kitchen and dining area, indoor fireplace, and Jacuzzi. It was all so amazingly beautiful and relaxing. I also got the package for us to get massages. Two specialists came to our loft with 2 seperate massage tables, the oils and everything they needed. They set up the tables almost side by side. So we laid there and got an hour long massage together...it was epic! The whole experience was worth every penny, and one day I plan to go back. I grew up right across the street from it for about 12 years as a child...of course I always thought the big white house was very pretty, but I never imagined the beauty hidden away behind it!
Phil and Gloria are kind and generous. The food was unique and delicious. We prefer a more home-style cooking. The rooms were extremely clean and comfortable. The area around the Inn has a great country feel and the grounds are meticulously kept. We will definitely refer our friends!
