The hotel itself is an art deco icon. Inside, several levels of modern gallery space and interesting nooks are worth taking an hour to walk through as a hotel guest. Don't miss the historic bank vault lounge in the basement.

This hotel is a literal beacon in downtown Durham. Much of the emergent Durham dining, sports, and music/theatre scene is within a few minutes walk.

Even in your comfortable, modern design room, you still can't escape the feeling you are staying in an institution of art.. which is a good thing. It feels special.

Let's be honest: if a budget hotel can manage to provide parking as part of their rates, a luxury hotel doesn't have any excuse for failing to offer the same basic amenity.

I visited 21c out of pure curiosity - we had time to kill and I had just eaten nearby. We spent maybe half an hour there and enjoyed wandering around quite a bit. The architectural style (art deco) of the hotel is esthetically pleasing, the art is accessible and mostly. Interesting and then there's the old vault on the lower level. If you're at all interested in anything mechanical or engineering then It's worth spending ten minutes just to visit the vault and see the main door, the vault interior, etc. You can even stop in the bar on the same floor, grab a drink and take it to the vault to wander or have a seat and look around.

That being said, I still highly recommend the 21c to anyone looking for a lovely getaway. Just know what to expect if you're coming by car.

Service is pretty good (exceptional at times) and the food is fantastic 100% of the time.

Honestly, I absolutely love this place. I'd live here if I could. Amazing staff, amazing room, amazing gallery, and amazing restaurant. As much as I hate to say it, I have to strike one star from the rating due to the parking. You either have to pay for a spot in a nearby garage, or pay the hotel's valet service.

I went to visit the museum during the Supernatural exhibit and I was astonished at how much fun it was! Half of it was interactive, with exploring the vault and lower levels art, while the other portion was contemporary and different. At first the lower levels was confusing to get to, but overall I had a great time perusing the hotel and the art. Would highly recommend for a quick and fun trip!

This is one of Durham's best hotels. Being from New York, I am accustomed to the finest hotels, well this hotel definitely makes my trips to Durham a more relaxed and enjoyable stay. The staff here are extremely nice and very professional, giving the service of a five star hotel. The rooms are luxurious and the hotel restaurant is not too bad!
