Great place to work. There was plenty of space to work the whole day without bothering anyone. Everyone respected the library rules (even the kids) and you can reserve rooms for free on a first come first serve basis online for 2-hour blocks per day if you need more privacy.
And here is the real kicker. At one point, a lady that worked there walked over to us, in the middle of this din of noise, and informed us that customers were complaining about our conversation and that we would need to take it somewhere else. Frankly, we were shocked, as there were easily three or four conversations much louder than us going on as she was talking to us. Many people were noticeably upset about the loud man and his party, and she pretended like that was not happening.
At one point, a man comes in practically yelling. You could hear him throughout the entire library, and he and a group of people gathered in a side room for a meeting. It sounded like a party. Everyone was laughing, and even squealing at times. Again, we were amazed that this would happen in a library.
Small facility with few options for real studying. Seems better equipped for people using the computer resources and the copy resources.
Early on, we started noticing that many people were talking at a regular conversational voice. Signs were posted to not use your phones in there, and people were just walking around doing it anyway. We were not bothered but assumed it was just a lax environment, so we began to have a conversation as well.
Like other Durham libraries they have a nice selection of DVDs, books, CDs and graphic novels. Good computer access. However some of the staff are way too uptight. I was ordered to put sneakers on just because I had my feet up on a chair (I am disabled). Other staff didn't have a problem but one woman did and I wonder if it wasn't racially motivated (she was black I'm white).
After some decent reviews on this branch, my friend and I decided to give it a try for studying. Upon arriving, the place seemed nice enough, and we settled in to try and study. We soon realized there were many better options in the area.
Decent library, some of the staff seem very awkward, sometimes you get the feeling they are almost staring at you.
Overall, a real confusing experience. I would look for another branch if you want employees who treat you with respect and a place that doesn't have loud parties in side rooms.
